Emotion behind it:
Kashmir, paradise on earth is known for it’s captivating beauty. The magnificent landscape, charming lakes and royal Mughal gardens of Kashmir leaves an impregnable experience for the people. Furthermore, from the heights of snow-capped mountains to the breathtaking view of dazzling rivers, Kashmir is simply heaven. In fact, Jahangir (Mughal Emperor) also quote a line in tribute to Kashmir – “If there is heaven of earth, it is here, it is here“. It is indeed insanely beautiful. I love hoe pristine the backdrop is in every scenery. The houseboats Shikaras are the points of gorgeousness and beautifully colours in the midst of such a scenery!
My adventure:
So to explore his wordings, I planned a short trip to Kashmir after arriving from Dublin this year. Away from the heat of Mumbai, I was overwhelmed in the amazing weather of kashmir. It is indeed heavenly.
A Shikhara is a traditional Gondola type light rowing boat which is mostly seen on the pristine Dal Lake, apart from other lakes. It is one of the most incredible and relaxing aspects of a holiday in Kashmir, and should be included in your itinerary if you want to experience the surreal beauty of this region to the fullest. Along with the houseboats, it is also considered to be a cultural symbol. But even apart from leisure and tourism purposes, the shikhara is also used by the locals for seaweed harvesting, fishing and transportation. nother thing is that Shikara and Dal Lake became more famous with Hindi super hit 1964 movie “Kashmir Ki Kalli“. The song “Taarif karu kya uski jisne tumhe banaya” sung my great Mohemmad Rafi. This is the reason I was inspired to reflect as much as I can, the beauty of Kashmir in my painting.
