This amazing monument ‘Hawa Mahal’ is built from red and pink sandstone. This palace sits on the edge of the City Palace, Jaipur, and extends to the Zenana, or women’s chambers. It is a mixture of Mughal and Rajput architecture.

Why is Hawa Mahal called ‘the Palace of Winds’?

This palace was named ‘Hawa Mahal’ because it is quite windy. Its architecture and design incorporates so many windows, jharokhas and latticework make it well ventilated and add to the free flow of wind.

Also, the Hawa Mahal is actually the tallest building in the world without foundation. Moreover, it is tilted at a slight angle of 87 degrees. The building has no stairs inside and one needs to climb up the ramps to reach the top.
